When I started creating this website I originally had based my design off a template. However, as I kept going I realized how increasingly difficult the CSS file became, and I started over. Utilizing the format from the first tutorial we did, as well as some aspects from the template, I created the format which I have now. I ran into a lot of problems- more than I was expecting. The issues were mainly with the CSS coding. CSS looked simple, but when I tried to change the font, or a specific color, they often altered different items than I wanted. However, I learned how great of a friend Google really is. Most of my problems were solved pretty quickly, after I googled the issue or followed the tutorial. I also copied and pasted quite frequently, because I found a lot of the elements are very similar, just with different tags, or specifications.
I went into this knowing I wanted a funky design with a lot of color, and that was about it. I took inspiration from Beyonce’s website, with her large-scale pictures, but most of the design I just came up with as I went. It didn’t turn out as expected, as I would have liked the website to be a little cleaner. I also had a vision for a really cool navigation bar, and I had to settle for a kind of bland one. However, I really liked the slideshow effect I was able to achieve on the first page. It’s big and bright and I think it draws the reader in and makes them want to explore the site. ] I really focused in on visual mode. I used bright colors, and huge pictures in order to captivate the audience and entertain them. The website isn’t trying to persuade or post any content of extreme importance, so I had a lot of fun choosing wild colors. I also utilized spatial mode. I varied my text, and on my bio page, I made the text giant. The giant text’s purpose was to keep the reader scrolling, so they looked at the whole page. If the text had not been spread out, the reader might have just skimmed or skipped the page entirely. The spatial mode also is prevalent on the Lyrics page of my site, where each new box is spaced diagonally, creating a color pattern of boxes. As far as design elements went, I really tried to utilize color to captivate the audience and keep them interested. I went with a common theme that went along with the colors of my SoundCloud tracks. I felt that the colors I chose reflected the style I was going for. I wanted a busy effect and something that would not be easily forgotten. I also focused on contrast, by making the background all black so that the colors stood out and so that the audience would not get bored. By utilizing contrast to enhance the colors, I think the website became even more exciting to look at. I also used contrasting fonts, which tied in with the busy effect and kept the reader entertained.
